The story

Letters from the Other Side

Your hero and partner were born in the Hollow, a tangle of thickets, caves and cliffs that city Pokémon call “a dungeon.” Exploration teams keep pouring in, on the trail of Captain Munchlax, a vanished explorer who left a letter at every stop of his journey.

Drive back the intruders, find the letters, figure out who is hurting explorers from the shadows… then leave your valley for the very first time.

What awaits you in PDMN

Dungeons that are always new

Every exploration rolls a new layout: rooms, corridors, hidden traps, items, stairs. A turn-based Pokémon roguelike where every step counts.

Recruit wild Pokémon

Defeat a wild Pokémon and it may join your team. Nearly two hundred species roam the dungeons, from the thickets to the storm-swept mountains.

The Hollow, your camp

Between expeditions, you stroll around the Hollow: Duskull’s bank, Delibird’s shop, Chatot’s notices, and everyone who settles there as the story unfolds.

Play together online

Invite a friend with a code: each on your own screen, you explore the same dungeon together, and each of you brings your share of the loot back to camp.

The Molt, mid-dungeon

Your Pokémon evolve: more than a hundred Molts, all the way to Eevee, who changes depending on where it goes through it.

Minigames and Monster Houses

Golden stairs lead to a game room: minesweeper, memory tiles or an ice rink. And sometimes, a whole room comes crashing down on you.

Weather, statuses and held items

Rain, sun, sandstorms, nine status conditions, one held item per Pokémon, traps to dodge, and Gholdengo, a merchant who wanders right into the dungeons.

On PC and on phones

With keyboard, mouse or touch: on phones, the game switches to landscape and plays by tapping the screen. With an account, your save follows you everywhere.

Your team

31 starter Pokémon, from the whole Mystery Dungeon series

The starters of Rescue Team, Explorers of Sky, Gates to Infinity and Super Mystery Dungeon are all here. Take the Explorers of Sky personality quiz, or pick your hero and partner directly.

Why PDMN

A Pokémon fangame true to Mystery Dungeon

Most Pokémon fangames are Red-and-Blue-style games you have to download. PDMN does the opposite: it takes the formula of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (by Spike Chunsoft), with its random dungeons, the team that follows you and its turn-based battles, and runs it in a simple web page.

The scenery uses the tiles of the original games, the Pokémon are animated with sprites from the SpriteCollab (PMDCollab) community, and more than three hundred moves have their own animation. If you love PokéRogue or you’re waiting for a new Mystery Dungeon, this should tide you over.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

PDMN, what is it?

A fan-made game (fangame) inspired by Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, playable in your browser. You play as a Pokémon who forms an exploration team with a partner, recruits wild Pokémon and explores randomly generated dungeons, through an original thirteen-chapter story.

Is the game free?

Yes, completely: no purchases, no ads, no subscription. It’s a fan project with no commercial purpose.

Do I need to download anything?

No. PDMN runs in your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari…) on Windows, macOS or Linux. On phones, you can add it to your home screen to open it like an app.

Can I play PDMN on my phone?

Yes, on Android and iPhone alike, and on tablets. The game is played in landscape: tap a tile to walk there and swipe to turn.

Can two people play together?

Yes. From the adventure screen, “Play Together” creates a code to give to a friend: each of you plays on your own device, in the same dungeon. Both players need to be signed in to their account.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, automatically, in your browser. With an account (by email or Discord), your save is also kept online and you can pick it up on another device.

How long is the story?

Six to eight hours for the thirteen chapters. After the ending, the Deep Gallery and a New Game Plus that keeps your team extend the adventure.

Is this an official Pokémon game?

No. PDMN is an unofficial fangame, made by fans, with no ties to Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, Game Freak, Creatures or Spike Chunsoft. Pokémon and all related names are trademarks of their respective owners.

Where can I report a bug or suggest an idea?

On the game’s Discord server, or straight from the game: a report is sent along with your save, which helps fix things fast.
